Hyperhydrosis / Tooth Grinding

What is it?

Sweating otherwise known as hyperhidrosis can be very detrimental to those who suffer from it. Excess underarm sweating can affect work productivity, confidence, social comfort, and wardrobe choice. Studies have shown it can significantly reduce quality of life, like that of other skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. Botulinum toxin is EMA/FDA approved for the treatment of underarm sweating as it is very safe and effective.

Tooth grinding can cause damage to your teeth, headaches, and generalized discomfort. Injecting botulinum toxin directly into the masseter and temporalis muscles reduces the muscle strength and with this reduces its impact on your teeth and muscles. Although it is still recommended to wear a traditional night guard this can make it much more comfortable to wear and is a great option for those who find a night guard too difficult to use. Dr Caitriona studied this topic in detail for her thesis and will be more than happy to answer any question you might have.

For most who grind their teeth the increased size of the muscle can lead to a square jaw which is less desirable in females. Roughly six weeks post treatment you can expect a reduction in the size of the muscle and with this a slimmer profile.

Is it for me?

If you suffer from either of these conditions and have tried other solutions which have failed or even if you haven’t then I would recommend this treatment.

Results will last from 3-12 months depending on the severity of the condition. Side effects are very rare, and this is a well tested, safe and effective treatment.

What can I expect from my appointment?

As with all treatments at Rae, consultation is key. It is important to ascertain the severity of your condition and if there is any preexisting medical issues which could affect this treatment. Consultation also allows a discussion on how long you may expect the treatment to last and answer any further questions you may have.

Treatment can generally be carried out for new patients at the consultation appointment. Very fine needles are used to make this treatment relatively painless. You can return to exercise 24 hours after treatment. Full results are generally seen after 2 weeks.
